Everything We Learned From Rangers Fan Fest
Texas Rangers Fan Fest is one of the year’s best days for many across DFW.
There is no shortage of excitement, from autographs to time on the field and the chance to ask your favorite players questions.
Plenty of headlines and stories emerge from the event every year, and 2025 is no different. Let’s break down everything we learned from Fan Fest.
1. Jacob deGrom expects to make 25-30 starts in 2025
After making just nine starts in his two seasons with the Rangers, Jacob deGrom is fully healthy and ready to go into 2025.
deGrom said he expects to make 25-30 starts in 2025 as his offseason ramp-up returns to normalcy for the first time in a while.
After dealing with free agency and Tommy John recovery the last two offseasons, deGrom has been able to ramp up as normal for the first time since he was with the Mets.
deGrom noted that he has already thrown off a mound this winter, something that he usually doesn’t do until February.
If the Rangers rotation wants to find success in 2025, it no doubt starts at the top with Jacob deGrom leading the way.
2. Chris Young sheds light on what Josh Smith’s role could be in 2025
When you have a player who wins a Silver Slugger in the previous season, you’ve got to find ways to get his bat into the lineup the next year.
According to Chris Young, the Rangers will have no issues doing that in 2025.
Young said that the Rangers could see Smith in the lineup 4 or 5 even possibly 6 times in a week throughout different positions.
“Super utility” is the best role for Smith according to Young as he even mentioned possibly playing him in the outfield and even center field in 2025.
3. The Rangers felt good about where things wound up with Roki Sasaki
Chris Young said they were “disappointed” that the Rangers never wound up getting a meeting with Japanese superstar Roki Saski but were overall satisfied with how things turned out.
Young said the team did a good job laying out a presentation and showing Sasaki what the Rangers are all about.
Despite his ending up with the Dodgers, Young says there are no hard feelings toward Sasaki and highly respects his agent Joe Wolfe.
4 Bruce Bochy isn’t quite concerned with his future just yet
Despite being in the last year of his three-year contract, Bruce Bochy says he’s just focused on getting the Rangers back to the postseason in 2025.
Bochy noted that he is feeling great and got his “juices flowing” for Spring Training when he was golfing with Corey Seager and new Rangers first baseman Jake Burger who both live near him in Nashville.
Chris Young said that Bochy will have an office next to his when he decides he doesn’t wanna manage anymore, that is if he wants it.
