Escape From New York: Cleveland Guardians Manage One Hit in 6-0 Loss

For a first-place team, the Cleveland Guardians are in a very uncomfortable position.

Losing to the New York Yankees 6-0 yesterday afternoon, the Guardians are clinging to a two-game lead over the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins.

CLEVELAND’S OFFENSE

Steven Kwan opened the game with a single. The Guardians also drew six walks.

BRONX BOMBING

Aaron Judge hit his fourth homer of the series in the fourth inning off Cleveland starter Gavin Williams (2-6). Judge has 48 homers for the season.

The Yankees increased the lead to 5-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly Austin Wells and a three-run homer by Giancarlo Stanton. He is up to 423 for his career.

Ben Rice added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to complete the scoring.

One highlight for the Guardians was Jose Ramirez stealing his 30th base to go with more than 30 homers. Ramirez has joined the 30/30 club for the second time.

Gerrit Cole and three relievers dominated the Guardians, who have lost five out of six games.

HERE COME THE CHAMPS

Cleveland will open a three-game series at home against the Texas Rangers tonight at 7:10. While the defending World champions are only 59-69, they are far from an easy out.

Tanner Bibee (10-5) will start for Cleveland against Nathan Eovaldi (8-7), who recently got to meet the president.
