An Overview Of The Blue Jays Selling Spree, Part 2

Here is part two of analyzing and breaking down each of the eight trades the Toronto Blue Jays made at the 2024 trade deadline. The four remaining trades the Jays made that were left out in part one include:

Toronto Receives: Jake Bloss, Joey Loperfido, Will Wagner

Houston Receives: Yusei Kikuchi

Toronto sent by far the best player out of everyone they had traded up until this point in Yusei Kikuchi to Houston, in exchange for three players incluiding Joey Loperfido and Will Wagner. Loperfido has already begun starting in games for the Blue Jays since being traded, and just recently his first home run as a member of his new club. Will Wagner has also been added to the Blue Jays starting lineup since being traded, and he has also been quite effective hitting .474 along with picking up a handful of RBI’s in the process. As for Kikuchi, he will obviously continue to shine with his new team as well, as the Astros bolster their already stacked rotation of pitchers while they continue to push for a another world series run this October.

Toronto Receives: Jay Harry

Minnesota Receives: Trevor Richards

This seemingly insignificant trade saw Toronto ship out pitcher Trevor Richards to the Twins in exchange for Jay Harry. Harry is still very young and will take lots of time to develop, while Minnesota gets back a solid pitcher that they can utilize as a starter or bullpen arm.

Toronto Receives: Charles Mcadoo

Pittsburgh Receives: Isiah Kiner-Falefa

Just like the last trade, there isn’t much to say here, a one-for-one trade which helps the Blue Jays get rid of expiring contracts like Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and get young prospects back in return at an unnoticeable cost. Kiner-Falefa was a solid player for Toronto, with his value most being seen in versatility, as the team could place him at multiple positions which came in handy to build lineups on a day-to-day basis.

Toronto Receives: Ryan Yarbrough

Los Angeles Dodgers Receive: Kevin Kiermaier

With the last trade the Blue Jays made during the 2024 trade deadline, Toronto traded center fielder Kevin Kiermaier in exchange for experienced pitcher Ryan Yarbrough. The interesting part about this trade, is that Kiermaier made it public that he intends to retire at the end of this season, which gave the Jays a perfect opportunity to try and find a trade, in order to get some value back for a player they knew wouldn’t be returning. Yarbrough began his major league career as a starter, but has moved to the bullpen in recent years, being used as a late inning setup guy and sometimes getting called to close out games on occasion. Overall he has been decent as a player, and getting him for a guy Toronto was going to lose regardless is a major win for the Blue Jays.

So that concludes the trades for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024, overall this was a well accomplished trade deadline, beginning with a vision and a goal, and being executed to perfection. Everyone knows by now that Toronto is missing the playoffs this year, so the best thing the team can do now is remove any expiring contracts and go back to the drawing board to reshape the club for next year. They completed this task very well, and were able to receive many young talents that could blossom into future big leaguers given the reputation of Toronto’s player development. The present may look bleak for the Blue Jays, but the future is as bright as ever and fans can’t wait to see how these new acquisitions will turn out and how they will impact the success of the team.
