Emmanuel Clase Saves All-Star Game as American League Wins 5-3

Five Cleveland Guardians represented the American League leaders in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, as the AL scored a 5-3 win in Arlington, Texas.

Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the second All-Star save of his career.

Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez started for the AL, with fellow Guardians Josh Naylor and David Fry coming off the bench.

Pittsburgh Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes started on the mound against Baltimore’s Corbin Burnes. Each pitched a scoreless first inning.

OHTANI BOMB

Los Angeles Dodgers DH Shohei Ohtani blasted a three-run homer off Tanner Houck (Red Sox) to go with the 29 he has already hit this year.

Jurickson Profar (Padres) and Ketel Marte (Diamondbacks) also scored for the NL.

The AL tied the game in the bottom of the third off Logan Webb (Giants). Juan Soto (Yankees) doubled to center field, scoring Kwan and Marcus Semien (Rangers).

Fry came up as a pinch hitter (in the third!) and singled to score Soto.

Jarren Duran (Red Sox) delivered the game-winning hit in the fifth inning with a two-run homer off Hunter Greene (Reds). Anthony Santander (Orioles) also scored.

The pitchers took over for the rest of the game, and Clase struck out Pete Alonso (Mets) and Bryan Reynolds (Pirates) in the ninth.

The Guardians will start the second half of the season on Friday when they host the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m. on AppleTV+.
