Earned and Deserved: Brenden Morrow to the Stars Hall of Fame

There have been a lot of great players to come in and wear the Dallas Stars jersey. In fact, a few of those names have their number retired and hang up in the rafters. Forward Mike Modano, who also has a statue outside of the arena. Defenseman Sergei Zubov, who was one of the best puck moving defenseman in his era. And underrated two way forward Jere Lehtinen to name a few. There have been plenty of other great players and now one will get to inducted into the Stars Hall of Fame.

Morrow Gets His Flowers

He may not be Modano or among the elites, but Brenden Morrow was a tremendous Star. He played 13 seasons for the Stars and went on to wear the ‘C’ for seven of those years. Morrow was originally selected in the first round of the 1997 NHL Draft.

Morrow could do it all on the ice. He was a fierce competitor and played the game hard, but also the right way. Morrow was never afraid to be physical and if he had to drop the gloves he could. He had a nose for the front of the net and was able to cause chaos for opposing goalies. The perfect player to crash the net and punch home rebounds.

Over the course of his career, Morrow reached the 20 goal mark five times and the 30 goal mark twice. He set a career high in goals (33) during the 2010-11 season and points (74) during the 2008-09 season. Morrow also suited up for the Penguins, Blues, and Lightning and played a total of 991 games. He finished with 265 goals, 310 assists, and 575 points. Morrow also had 46 points in 118 playoff games.

Morrow is joining a very elite group when it comes to the Stars’ Hall of Fame. Some very legendary players are in there such as Brett Hull, Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk, Modano, Neal Broten, and legendary head coach Ken Hitchcock. He did not shy away from what this means to him as a player to be in that same company.

“Never expected to be included with those list of guys – [Mike] Modano, [Sergei] Zubov, and [Jere] Lehtinen and [Derian] Hatcher. To be included with them is incredible and something I never thought would ever be possible,” Morrow said. “Very honored to be part of it.”

His Biggest Moment As a Player

Every player has a big moment in their career and a memory that will last a lifetime. For Morrow, it came in the playoffs in a thrilling battle against the San Jose Sharks.

Cinco de Mayo is an important holiday, but for Stars fans it’ll always be Cinco de Morrow. On May 5, 2008 Morrow sent the Stars faithful home in a frenzy. In what was the fourth overtime of the game, a Stephan Robidas pass found his stick and he tapped the puck in past Evgeni Nabokov to secure the victory. This goal will go down as one of the more memorable ones in Stars’ history, but to current captain he was a memorable player.

“He probably goes down as one of the best that ever played with this team. Such a great player, captain, and person,” Stars captain Jamie Benn said. “When you look at the Dallas Stars as an organization, you want good people and obviously good hockey players, and he checks all the boxes for how he went about his business and leading this group and playing the game hard.”

This is a much deserved honor and a great day for Dallas Stars hockey and its fans.
