Eagles vs Packers: Injury Report for Week 1
I’m finally back from a short vacation, and it’s time to get back to work. My weekend was packed with golf, celebrating a friend’s bachelor party, and my fantasy football draft—but now, it’s time to focus because the NFL season is officially here. Today, we’re diving into the latest on injuries.
One of the Eagles’ main goals during training camp has always been player health. In previous years, they’ve taken a light approach to ensure players enter the season at 100%. This year, however, they pushed the players a bit harder, and for the most part, the Eagles are coming into the season fully healthy. Let’s take a closer look at the Eagles’ injury report from Wednesday. Keep in mind that today’s injury report is just an estimation, as the Eagles are en route to Brazil.
Did Not Practice
LB Devin White (Ankle): Devin White was limited earlier this week due to an ankle injury. With the game scheduled for Friday, I’m skeptical about his availability. If he can’t suit up, I expect the combination of Nakobe Dean and Zack Baun to start at linebacker in Brazil. (Update: As I’m writing this, the Eagles have released their final injury report, and Devin White is officially OUT.)
Limited Participation
CB Isaiah Rodgers (Hand): Rodgers had a strange end to training camp, disappearing during the last preseason game, leading many to speculate about an injury. It turns out he hurt his hand. He’s been limited in practice this week but appears likely to play. Rodgers seems to have won the battle for the starting outside cornerback spot, so expect him to get plenty of in-game reps.
The Eagles also listed A.J. Brown and Landon Dickerson on the injury report, but it was for rest purposes. Both are expected to be good to go.
IR, PUP, Etc.
S Sydney Brown (PUP): Sydney Brown, unfortunately, tore his ACL in the last game at MetLife last season. He seems to be ahead of schedule in his recovery, showing some of his speed and agility during sideline work in camp. However, he’ll be forced to miss the first four games on the PUP list.
S James Bradberry (IR): Bradberry suffered a lower body injury just a day after roster cutdowns. He’ll be out for 6-8 weeks, though it’s still unclear why he made the roster.
WR Ainias Smith (IR): Smith had a slow start to training camp but improved towards the end. After the third preseason game, he reported discomfort in his ankle and will miss 4-6 weeks due to the injury.
TE Albert Okwuegbunam (IR): Albert O is on IR with a core muscle injury. The Eagles clearly see potential in him, as they used an IR-designated return spot for him during roster cutdowns.
Packers Injury Report (as of 9/3)
Did Not Practice
RB MarShawn Lloyd (Hamstring): The Packers rookie is on track to miss his first NFL game. He was one of my favorites during the draft, a solid RB2 with a slight fumbling issue.
Limited Participation
WR Romeo Doubs (Hand): Doubs is a key part of the Packers’ wide receiver committee.
LB Edgerrin Cooper (Hip): Eagles fans know Cooper well. The rookie linebacker is currently dealing with a hip injury.
CB Carrington Valentine (Hamstring): Valentine led the team last year in passes defended.
RB Emanuel Wilson (Hip): Wilson, the Packers’ RB3, is also limited, which could leave the team thin at running back in Brazil.
IR, PUP, Etc.
RB AJ Dillon (IR): Dillon’s season is over due to a neck injury. The big back will have to wait until next year to reclaim his role as the team’s bruiser.
