Eagles Player Profile: Gabe Hall

We’re currently in the dead period of the off-season, and the Eagles won’t be back on the field until late July. Today, we continue the player profile series to get to know some of the new faces on the Eagles. Today, we take a look at one of the Eagles’ undrafted free agents, Gabe Hall.

Gabe Hall is one of those UDFAs gaining traction since signing with the Eagles. It seems like every year, the Eagles have a UDFA who makes the team and has some type of impact, whether good or bad. Last year, the Eagles had a few UDFAs who played meaningful snaps, such as Mekhi Garner, Eli Ricks, and Ben VanSumeren. The year before that, the Eagles signed Mario Goodrich, Noah Elliss, Britain Covey, Reed Blankenship, and Josh Jobe. I think Gabe Hall will be someone to keep an eye on during training camp. He has a real shot at making the team. But why was he an undrafted free agent? Let’s take a look.

High School & College

Gabe Hall attended Waller High School in Texas, where he was rated a 3-star recruit by both ESPN and 247 Sports. Alongside football, Hall competed in track and field and wrestling during his time at Waller. He committed to joining the Baylor Bears. Over his college career, Hall appeared in 48 games over 5 years, recording 77 total tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 16.5 tackles for loss. He was a two-time Honorable Mention All-Big 12 Conference selection.

Strengths

  • Has a great spin move and swim move in his arsenal.
  • Long arms and great frame, which help initiate contact first.
  • Able to cause a ton of problems with his strength, often collapsing the pocket.
  • Super quick off the snap, with enough quickness to go sideline to sideline.
  • Versatile, able to play in multiple defensive alignments.
  • Great hands and shows promise in developing further as a pass rusher.

Weaknesses

  • Not very explosive, which will hurt him on some pass reps.
  • Struggles to handle double teams.
  • Not the greatest run defender and struggles with shedding run blocks.
  • Doesn’t win enough on pass reps.
  • His play actually declined year by year.

Gabe Hall was seen as a Day 3 pick but ended up going undrafted. Teams view him as a developmental piece, and he will need to work on his game if he wants to get NFL snaps under his belt. If he refines his technique, he has a chance to be a rotational player along the defensive line. His body type is more of a tweener between a defensive end and a defensive tackle. I give him a 10% chance of making the 53-man roster, but I do think he will eventually develop enough to make an NFL roster at some point.
