Drew McIntyre Misses the WWE World Title Again, Thanks to CM Punk

Drew McIntyre was in the perfect position to win the World title in front of his hometown fans at WWE Clash at the Castle in Scotland on Saturday.

Then CM Punk showed up.

McIntyre was challenging Damien Priest in the main event when the referee was injured. Drew hit the Claymore Kick … here comes a new referee. One, two … wait, Punk is the referee!

Punk gave Drew a low blow, Priest hit the South of Heaven chokeslam, and the referee returned to count to three.

This is the second time in three months that Punk has cost McIntyre the World title. At WrestleMania XL, Drew won the title and made the mistake of rubbing it in Punk’s face. Punk attacked Drew, and Priest cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase to win the belt.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BAYLEY

McIntyre wasn’t the only Scot who didn’t win the big one at Clash at the Castle. Piper Niven lost to Bayley, who celebrated her 35th birthday by retaining the WWE women’s title.

But Scotland did win one championship at Clash at the Castle. Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn, who are both Scottish, captured the WWE women’s tag team title. They won a Triple Threat match over Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark and the super-team champions, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill.

Cody Rhodes retained the WWE in an I Quit match over AJ Styles. He handcuffed Styles to the corner, hit him with a chair, and threatened to nail him with the steel steps when Styles gave up.

After winning, Cody asked his mom if he should hit Styles with the steps anyway. She said yes!

Sami Zayn hung onto the Intercontinental Title with a win over Chad Gable. Both members of Alpha Academy at ringside (Maxxine and Otis) declined to help Gable. That group is ready to implode.
