Detroit Tigers Shut Out Cleveland Guardians Again
Scoring zero runs for 20 innings in a row would push any team to the brink of elimination.
The Cleveland Guardians are in that spot after a 3-0 loss at Detroit yesterday.
Steven Kwan had three of Cleveland’s six hits, but the Guardians couldn’t put a rally together as the Tigers pitched a bullpen game.
Detroit manager AJ Hinch dictated the game with his pitching changes. Cleveland skipper Steven Vogt followed suit, even pulling right-fielder Will Brennan before he got a chance to bat!
Cleveland starter Alex Cobb gave up two runs in three innings, but the loss wasn’t his fault. The Guardians have to start hitting, or they’re going home.
Game 4 is set for 6:08 p.m. today on TNT and Max. Tanner Bibee will start for Cleveland, while Detroit will unleash the bullpen again.
YANKEES 3, ROYALS 2
Giancarlo Stanton’s solo homer in the eighth inning lifted the visiting Yankees to a 2-1 lead over Kansas City in their AL Division Series.
Stanton doubled in a run in the fourth inning. Gerrit Cole will try to close out the Royals tonight at 8:08 on TBS. Michael Wacha will start for Kansas City.
METS ELIMINATE PHILLIES
Francisco Lindor’s grand slam led the New York Mets to a 4-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.
The wild-card Mets knocked the 95-win NL East champion Phillies out of the playoffs.
The Mets can relax until Sunday, when they will face the Dodgers-Padres winner.
DODGERS ROUT PADRES 8-0
Mookie Betts homered in the first, and the Dodgers kept piling on the runs. Betts added an RBI single in the second inning to increase the lead to 3-0.
Will Smith slapped a two-run homer to center field in the third. Gavin Lux added a two-run shot in the eighth.
In addition to the offensive explosion, the Dodgers’ bullpen pitched the entire game and shut out the Padres on seven hits.
This contentious series will conclude on Friday night at 8:08 at Dodger Stadium on Fox. Yu Darvish will start for San Diego, while the Dodgers are still undecided.
