Detroit Lions Sign veteran safety Jamal Adams
The Detroit Lions have signed former All-Pro Safety Jamal Adams to the practice squad. Adams was drafted 6th overall by the NY Jets, and made an immediate impact in the NFL. Adams was named a starter fresh out of training camp and started all 16 games from the Strong Safety Position. He would finish with 83 combined tackles, 6 pass deflections, and 2 sacks. Adams would also be named to the All-Rookie Team.
In his sophomore season, Adams would be selected to his first of several Pro Bowl selections. In 2020 broke the single-season record for sacks by a defensive back with 9.5. He did so in only 12 games. This is all while en-route to his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection alongside his teammate Quadre Diggs.
Several times Adams was recognized as a Top 100 player in the NFL, and in the Offseason of 2021 was rewarded with a massive contract of 4 years $72 million, which at the time was the largest deal ever for a safety. Adams has struggled to remain healthy since the 2021 season, and was mostly recently playing for the Tennessee Titans before requesting a release, which was granted on October 17th of this year.

Role
Jamal Adams a game-wrecking safety, who uses his high energy and motor, to fly around the field and make plays. He is a highly effective blitzer, who excelled rushing off the edge in the fire zone scheme they ran in Seattle. He is a versatile Safety that defends the run at high level. He has shown the ability to play in the 2 high safety position, linebacker role, as well as defending in the box off the edge. Adams joins a Detroit secondary that hasn’t dealt with too many long-term injuries, but with his versatility Detroit will certainly find some opportunities to utilize him somewhere on the field. He may be able to lend some help to a decimated linebacker group.
