DeSmith’s Strong Outing Helps Stars Win First Game In Utah
The Dallas Stars made their first-ever trip to the Delta Center to take on the Utah Hockey Club in their first matchup.
It wasn’t Jake Oettinger who stole the show in the net; it was Casey DeSmith, who made 34 saves on 35 shots.
Dallas took home a 2-1 victory on their second night of a back-to-back to take home their third straight win.
“You could see we ran out of some gas in the second half of that game, but we found a way,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said.
“[We] built a lead up, defended well around our net, and Casey was our best player, which is what we needed today.
“In the conference, in the division for us, we’re in a battle with a lot of teams. You circle this one on the calendar because it’s three [games] in four [days] and back-to-back. You’re usually not getting points in a game like this, so this was a gutsy effort by our group.”
Dallas got on the board first on the power play late in the second period as Evgenii Dadonov flipped a shot into the net to put the Stars up 1-0.
“I just try and do my job,” Dadonov said. “Obviously, it’s hard to play back-to-back, especially [after a] pretty tough game yesterday.”
Very late in the same period, Jamie Benn extended the lead with a snipe blocker side from the right dot to make it 2-0.
Utah had their foot on the gas for much of the third period tallying at 6:57 to cut the Stars lead to 2-1.
Much like the majority of the game, the rest of the night was dominated by Casey DeSmith who made key stops down the stretch to help Dallas to victory.
The Stars continue their West Coast road trip in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, where they take on the Kings.
