Dallas Wings Have Best Odds To Land Number One Overall Pick

The 2024 Dallas Wings season has come to an end and it was not pretty by any means. Dallas finished with a record of just 9-31 in Latricia Trammell’s second season at the helm.

Injuries plagued the Wings throughout the season as Dallas missed stars such as Satou Sabally, Natasha Howard, and Maddy Seigrist throughout much of the year.

While eight of the WNBA’s 12 teams will be looking forward to the playoffs which begin Sunday, the Wings are in the group that is already starting to peak at free agency and the draft.

Looking ahead to the draft lottery, things shape up quite well for GM Greg Bibb and the Dallas Wings.

Dallas owns the best odds (45.4%) to win the 2025 draft lottery due to owning the Chicago Sky’s first-round pick swap thanks to the Marina Mabery trade.

Combining their pick and the Sky’s pick to get the 45.4% the Wings just edge out the Los Angeles Sparks (44.2%) for the best odds to win the lottery.

If the Wings were to win the draft lottery, it would be franchise-altering due to Uconn point guard Paige Bueckers being the presumable number one overall pick.

At Uconn last season Bueckers averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.4 blocks in 39 games after recovering from a torn ACL.

Bueckers has been well-known in the basketball world since high school labeled as a “phenom” who would eventually take over the WNBA.

Without a draft lottery win, the Wings will be looking at players such as LSU’s Aneesah Morrow, USC’s Kiki Iriafen, Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles, or Uconn’s Azzi Fudd.

The last time the Wings selected number one overall was back in 2021 when they selected Texas center Charli Collier.

Collier averaged just 2.9 points in two seasons with the Wings and is considered by many to be one of the biggest busts in recent years.

Not only is Collier not in the league anymore after being drafted high in 2021, but a significant amount of that entire draft class failed to pan out in the WNBA.

Dallas Wings GM Greg Bibb would love another shot to select first in the draft and with this one, it’s going to be hard to miss.
