Dallas Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale Named To All WNBA Second Team

On Wednesday afternoon, Dallas Wings superstar guard Arike Ogunbowale was named to the 2024 All-WNBA Second Team.

This marks the third time in her six-year WNBA career that Ogunbowale earned all WNBA honors (2020, 2021) and second on the second team (2021, 2024).

2024 saw Ogunbowale have a career year despite the Wings’ 9-31 record. In 38 games, Ogunbowale put up career highs in assists (5.1) rebounds (4.6), and steals (2.1) while putting up 22.2 points a night.

As far as the WNBA’s leaderboards went, Ogunbowale led the league in steals (2.1), and free throw percentage (.921) and was second in scoring (22.2) only behind league MVP A’ja Wilson (26.9).

Ogunbowale made history on multiple occasions during the 2024 season. For the season as a whole, Ogunbowale became the first player in W history to average 20-plus points, and five-plus assists and lead the league in steals.

On September 12th against the New York Liberty, Ogunbowale became the Dallas Wing’s all-time leading scorer with 3,972 points. Just days later, Ogunbowale became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 4,000 points needing just 195 games. (Breanna Stewart 196)

The Notre Dame grad’s best game of the season came in May against the Phoenix Mercury when she dropped 40 points in a Wings 107-92 win. Ogunbowale also dished at least seven assists on 10 occasions, and twice tallied points-assists double-doubles, including a career-high 13 dimes on July 10 at Phoenix.

En route to leading the WNBA in steals, Ogunbowale had at least three steals in 14 games, including a career-best six at Minnesota on June 2.

Joining Ogunbowale on the all-WNBA second team are New York’s Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones, Phoenix’s Kahleah Copper, and Seattle’s Nneka Ogwumike. The first team was headlined by Liberty’s Breanna Stewart, Indiana’s Caitlin Clark, Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier, Las Vegas’ A’ja Wilson, and Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas.

By making the second team, Ogunbowale earned an extra $5,150. Members of the first team earned $10,300.

Each team was voted on by a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters at the end of the regular season without regard to position.

Ogunbowale earned 29 second-team votes and four first-team votes.
