Dallas Cowboys Problems are Evident to All

The Dallas Cowboys have struggled at times during the 2024 football season. Even in their wins, they have not looked dominate at all.

This past week Jerry Jones was asked a series of questions on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas and he did not take kindly to being questioned.

When asked about some off-season decisions that were made or not made by Jones and the front office, he responded in a way that I and many did not expect:

“Listen, let me tell you what I’ll do about it, I will let us sit down and look at the decisions we’ve made over the last several years. OK? I’ll look at it,” Jones said. “Now if you think I’m interested on a damn phone call with you over the radio and sitting here and throwing all the good out with the dishwater, you’d have got to be smoking something over there this morning. I’m not.”

Jerry went on to tell them it is not there job to let him go over the reasons he did or didn’t do something. Maybe I’m crazy, but I thought their job was exactly that. Asking the questions the fans want answered.

The Cowboys have been mediocre at best over the past 20 plus years. Since winning Super Bowl XXX in 1996, the Cowboys have won just 5 playoff games ( out of 18) and not been back to even the NFC Championship game.

Jerry Jones is a billionaire National Football League owner, and with that comes pride. He is also the most vocal of all the owners and is one of the only ones to have his own weekly radio show.

I can imagine that his pride was wounded after the thrashing that the Cowboys took at the hands of the Detroit Lions. It’s not fun to answer tough questions about what you did or didn’t do.

But Shaun and RJ of the Fan were just asking questions that need answers. Good questions in my opinion.

Look, nobody likes criticism. But when it is warranted it needs to be asked. I hope that they get to continue doing there job and their show is entertaining.

The problem is things don’t look to get any better for ‘Boys any time soon. The 49’ers are a very good football team. After that they have the Falcons, Eagles, Texans and Washington. All good teams.

Can the Cowboys turn this season around? Anything is possible, but as a fan of the NFL since childhood (a very long time ago), I have not seen many teams overcome a season like the Cowboys are having.

Their defense is not good, and it was supposed to be their strength. They signed Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to big contracts, and both are severely underperforming.

While a recovery is possible, it is not probable. Kind of like another team in the DFW metroplex that everyone thought would come around eventually in the Texas Rangers. The Rangers did not even make the post season a year after winning it all.

So while Cowboys fans shouldn’t give up all hope, they also have to be realistic. It is probably not the season for the ‘Boys to get back to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1995.
