Red Raiders earn bowl eligibility on Senior Night

By the thinnest of margins, Texas Tech has secured their place in the always entertaining Bowl Season. I have written previously about why that matters so much, but to reiterate Texas Tech now officially has a postseason streak going. Not only that, but the Red Raiders still have a game to play setup 8 wins for consecutive years. And lastly, did I mention how fun bowl season really is?

But first, let’s talk about what went on against the UCF Knights. The Red Raiders started very slow on both sides of the ball as the Knights took a 14-point lead. But then, the defense started making plays. That seemed to spark the offense as the Red Raiders would answer their scoreless quarter with 14 unanswered points. In any game, a little luck goes a long way. Baffling clock management by Gus Malzahn led to UCF’s final drive before the half running out of time before a FG could be attempted, and the game went into half tied.

Tech would open the second half scoring, making it 21 unanswered points. However, Tech would not find the endzone again as the offense continues to be stuck in neutral. That is despite Tahj recording 182 yards and a TD on the night. Behren Morton recovered from what was a bad game for him last week, but something is still missing from this offense. The defense for its part cracked a bit in the fourth after what had been two stellar quarters of play, as UCF would kick a FG and then score what appeared to be the game tying touchdown with a little over five minutes to play.

But then, the play of the night as the PAT was blocked, and Tech would hang on. Really love to see the squad ice the game with 5:30 to play, thanks to the Tahj Brooks show continuing to be almost unstoppable.

Overall, the Senior’s got the home win they deserved, and this team is playing postseason football. Was it pretty? No. But a win, is a win, is a win.
