Keys to the Kingdom: Cincinnati

New week, new opportunity to continue washing the taste of the bad start to the year out of everyone’s mouth. So without further adue, here are the three keys to the game the Red Raiders must accomplish to get the win.

Consistency

Texas Tech started fast offensively, with a hell of an opening drive and then finishing with plus field position after the turnover. But the consistency issues are still there. Morton was inconsistent all day, which slowed the passing attack to a crawl. The playcalling at times was still maddening, with no real identity established. To get on this win streak, the squad overall must be more consistent.

Eliminate the mental lapses

This of course refers to the penalties primarily, with both the offensive line and defensive backs being repeatedly penalized all season. But it is the other little things as well, playing smart and communicating has not been this team’s strong suit. We need to see a clean game against the Cats, with the offensive line not committing procedural mistakes and the DBs not busting multiple times a game.

TACKLE

This team is not afraid to hit, but man are they struggling to finish a tackle. Tech needs a game of good form tackling, stop throwing shoulders or trying weak arm tackles. So many good defensive plays have been spoiled by this phenomenon of poor tackling.
