Defensive Spotlight: The Line

I have picked on the secondary in this section, but one group on D has been just as shaky in one key facet. The defensive line has consistently been a bit of a ho-hum unit. Look, the rushing numbers sans-Arizona have been pretty dang good. They do a good job of not giving up the point of attack, letting the linebackers and secondary fill and bring backs down. Case in point, pretty impressive overall effort against a very good Arizona State rushing attack.

But the issue is the lack of pressure. Against Arizona there was a bit more pressure, but a lot of what came at the quarterback was non-organic aka blitz packages. The defensive line has a much nicer opponent this week in a flailing Baylor team, and this can be a critical get-right game. The reality is that Tech will need this line to beat teams like Colorado, the ability to get home will make or break this Texas Tech’s teams chance to finish special or fall short.

This weak with an easy opponent is the time to stack up the sacks.
