Countdown To Kickoff Day 39: Revenge in Waco

Year One’s most hyped contest, outside of Texas, under McGuire had to be the night game against Baylor. I remember being at a Halloween party, confiscating the hosts laptop, and watching the game throughout the party.

In case anyone doesn’t remember, that game went badly. That is why in Year Two, against a flailing Baylor squad, it was so important for McGuire’s boys to get it done.

And that they did, riding the legs of Tahj Brooks and stout defense to annihilate the Bears 39-14. In his fourth straight 100 yard game last year, Brooks would pop-off for 170 yards on 31 carries. This theme of feeding Brooks to get big wins will continue this year, but Morton played well in his own right throwing 3 TDs. The story though was the smothering defense as the Bears only ran for 30 years and if not for a 71 yard TD in the fourth would have turned in less than 300 total yards of offense.

With quite a few former Baylor assistants on staff, it felt good to crush the Bears.
