Countdown To Kickoff Day 37: Everything Runs Through Lubbock

Obviously today is an easy one. The last victory of Texas Tech football over Texas, 37-34 in OT after forcing a Bjijon Robinson fumble. I could talk at length about the Donovan Smith heroism in this game, or how good it felt to beat Texas in such a heartbreaking fashion, but the biggest thing I want to highlight is how different the McGuire teams feel in moments like this.

You all remember that 63-56 just a few years prior, a game Texas Tech had won and choked away. After Tech managed the comeback in this edition, and actually took the lead on a Wolff FG, it felt again like the game was won. But Texas rallied, overcoming the disappointment of their own choke job to tie the game back and force OT. However, the energy was different this time. That year’s team felt like they wouldn’t rollover with everything not going their way.

And a rare, as in one of the only moments its happened in his career period, Robinson FG immediately proved why you can’t get your head down. It was a cool moment and encapsulates what everyone is hoping to see more in Year Three, mental toughness in the face of all adversity
