Countdown to Kickoff Day 36: Tahj Brooks will make history

1,168. Not at all related to day 36, but again, my blog my rules baby.

The number of yards Tahj Brooks needs to break Texas Tech’s all-time career rushing total. A record which has held since Byron Hanspard ran for 4,219 yards from 1994-96. So today we will look at some math on what that will actually take to accomplish.

For a minute, we will go ahead and only look at the regular season or just 12 games. Now a bowl game with this schedule seems almost a certainty, let alone the dreams of more postseason glory, is only being put aside as Tahj is only guaranteed 12 games to get it done.

Offensive linemen are graded on the assumption that 4 yards a carry is the minimum, some 4.5 if your coach is harsher, for a back in a game. For Brooks, at 4 yards a carry, that would take 24 carries per game. A hefty burden, but considering most (myself included) think Brooks needs 20 carries minimum per game for Tech to win not an insane reality to think he averages closer to 25-30. He averaged 22 last season, despite a few games almost everyone agrees he received way too few. He also averaged an impressive 5.3 per clip.

This years offense, that hopefully benefits from an older Oline and a better passing attack, will take some of the burden off Brooks. But make no mistake, Tahj will break this record. He will shatter it in fact, and he will do it during the regular season.

Before anyone says I am casting a jinx, I am saying a prayer. And knocking on wood. And spinning in a circle. All to counteract any bad injury Juju.
