Countdown to Kickoff Day 17: Keeping Morton Healthy

Texas Tech has had some of the worst runs in the history of college football with quarterback injuries. I cannot remember the last time a Tech quarterback finished the season after starting it, and several times the last five years Tech has been forced to go to the third string just to finish a season.

Take last season as a perfect example, Behren Morton was unhealthy most of the season after taking over for Shough who suffered a devastating injury. There are quite a few areas to blame for this string of unfortunate QB healthy, from poor strength and conditioning efforts to bad playcalls to just awful luck.

Whatever the case, Texas Tech cannot afford to lose Morton this year. Keeping him healthy is not only a priority, it is the most important priority for this offense. Abandon those dumb quarterback powers, the gain is so minimal compared to other calls (such as letting running backs tote the rock) and teach him to slide early and often.
