Brooks performances stands out amongst a crop of solid outings
The good thing about this past game is that it was a challenge to choose just one guy as the Player of the Week. Multiple guys stood out and were worthy of the recognition, but after watching the tape Tahj Brooks effort couldn’t go unnoticed.
Not only did he have the stats to back his performance up, the tape shows an amazing effort on multiple runs to turn nothing into something. His touchdown run was a great example of his patience and experience knowing that if he waited that extra second there would be a hole open. None of the runs that were stuffed were due to him making a mistake it was solely on the offensive line missing a guy and even then Tahj did what he could.
Unfortunately that leads me to the short preview of the offensive matchup that includes Tahj being questionable for this upcoming game against Washington State. That would be a huge hit to the offense if he isn’t able to go, meaning Cam’Ron Valdez will get some run along with the other guys in the backfield. Valdez entered the transfer portal this offseason, but was clearly a priority to the coaching staff as they made sure he didn’t leave.
Josh Kelly is the biggest name going into this one as he transferred to Tech from Wazzu and has a chance to return to Pullman and put on a show in front of a lot of familiar faces. He will be a huge factor regardless of whether or not Tahj is good to go, and I expect him to have plenty of motivation for this one.
The passing game is going to have to continue the momentum from last week if this team has to get in a barn burner with the Cougars. Behren Morton having more control at the line of scrimmage is a sign that this coaching staff trusts him more than enough to run this offense and light up the scoreboard.
Portland State was able to put up 449 yards including 200+ in both the passing and rushing departments. A good portion was after the game was put away but Wazzu doesn’t have a stout defense regardless and should be easy to pick apart.
Keep an eye out for the preview pod where the guys break down the matchup on both sides of the ball and talk about how they see this one playing out!
