A Big Year for Big Tight Ends

Mason Tharp is a big, big, big man. 6′ 9″, 270 lbs, and having walked by him at field level he is every bit of that size. He is developing as a blocker, his height being a detriment here, but he moves with fluidity in space and that height makes him a dangerous man.

But a newcomer could be just as important for the tight end attack, Jaylin Conyers. The Arizona State transfer was very effective in Tempe. They even gave him the ball in the wildcat, and running the ball he averaged 4.2 YPC. He is another big target, 6′ 4″, 265 lbs, and moves like no one that big should. He has the size to be an effective run blocker, and the ball skills to be elite on routes and after the catch.

I am only highlighting these two, but don’t be surprised to see a few other faces. The key for Tech is to get the tight ends involved, something that we here have been beating our drum over for the entire McGuire era. These guys make the QBs job easy, and they add a threat defenses will struggle to handle. No one matches up well with this dude, so please feed them the rock.
