College Football Players 2024 Follow-Up: New Miami Hurricanes QB Carson Beck
In this series, we will evaluate college football players and how they performed in 2024. We will take a look at University of Miami’s new transfer quarterback Carson Beck.
Since the 2020 season, Carson Beck has donned a Georgia Bulldogs uniform. He is an athlete who has shown that he can produce at a high level, and won many games as a starter over the last several seasons.
Beck’s college football journey has certainly not been a straight path. The 22-year-old Sports Management Major had to sit behind a multitude of quarterbacks when he first got to Georgia. It was there that he learned the art of quarterback play and in 2023, he was named the week one starter against UT Martin. Beck continued to rise up the rankings and was categorized as a top-tier quarterback during the 2023 season. He led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and finished with 24 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions and threw for close to 4,000 passing yards.
The game of football brings so much uncertainty each year. One moment a team can have their franchise signal-caller and then the next minute that same player could struggle greatly. Each year brings new obstacles and it is up to the coaching staff and players to buy in and adjust when adversity strikes. For the 2024 Georgia Bulldogs, Beck’s statistically performance took a sharp decline.
The decline in play ultimately made the future NFL hopeful quarterback enter the transfer portal after the team’s Playoff Quarterfinal loss to Notre Dame 23-10. Just nine days later, Beck committed to the Miami Hurricanes for the 2025 season, with the goal of getting back on track and overcoming his elbow injury that made him miss multiple key games toward the tail end of last season.
Beck finished 2024 throwing for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, an increase of six interceptions from his first year as the starting quarterback. There were times that he forced the football and made untimely mistakes that cost him and his team points. The first step during the offseason is for Beck to continue his treatment and get back to throwing a football. ESPN reported that it will be around March when he can begin throwing to his new teammates.
The Miami Hurricanes are coming off a 10-3 record and lose their quarterback Cam Ward, who will most likely be a top five draft selection. Ward brought skillsets that Beck cannot reproduce such as his ability to run the football, but that doesn’t mean the team can’t flourish under his leadership. Like any quarterback, if Beck can improve his ability to read defenses and turn the ball over less in 2025, he can make his way back up the NFL ladder as a potential franchise leader next year.
