Cody Rhodes Aligns with Roman Reigns as Smackdown Returns to USA Network
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns battled for the WWE title at WrestleManias 39 and 40. Now they’re on the same team.
Last night, Rhodes successfully defended the WWE title in a steel cage match against Solo Sikoa as Smackdown returned to the USA Network after five years on Fox.
The Bloodline attacked the champion after the match, with Reigns coming to the rescue against his own family members.
At the end of the show, Cody and Roman agreed to team up to face Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood on Oct. 5.
WHO’S LEAVING SMACKDOWN?
Another tag team match was set up for next week’s Smackdown. Women’s champion Nia Jax will team with Tiffany Stratton against Bayley and Naomi.
If Bayley or Naomi win, she will get a shot at Jax’s championship. If one of them loses, she will have to leave Smackdown.
Michin defeated Piper Niven, only to get attacked after the match by Niven and Chelsea Green.
Andrade won the fifth and final match in his series against Carmelo Hayes. LA Knight immediately came out and offered Andrade a shot at the US title next week.
Kevin Owens chose Randy Orton as his mystery partner, after teasing that it would be Ricky from the independent tag team Midnight Heat. Owens & Orton went on to defeat Austin Theory & Grayson Waller.
Several WWE stars of the past appeared in the crowd throughout the show, including Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Freebird Michael Hayes, and Vickie Guerrero.
