Cody Bellinger Opts In To Stay With Cubs in 2025
Cody Bellinger won’t be going anywhere for the 2025 season.
On Saturday it was announced that Bellinger opted into his contract to stay with the Chicago Cubs in 2025.
Bellinger signed a three-year $90 million deal with the Cubs before last season. His deal included opt-outs after both 2024 and 2025.
Prior to that deal, Bellinger made the most of a one-year “prove it” deal in 2023 when he hit .307 with 26 home runs and 97 RBI.
2024 didn’t bring the same success to Bellinger as he hit just .266 with 18 home runs and 78 RBI.
2025 will see Bellinger make $27.5 million but will be faced with yet another decision to opt in or out after next year.
Right field will likely be Bellinger’s home next season after he moved there following starting the season in centerfield.
Cubs top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong emerged as their everyday centerfielder with Bellinger sliding to right and Seiya Suzuki moving off the field and into the DH role.
2025 will be an interesting season for the Cubs who have won 83 games in each of the last two years.
Chicago will look to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 covid season where they lost to the Miami Marlins in the Wild Card round.
The Cubs are looking for their first playoff win since 2017.
