Cleveland’s Wrestling Couple Has a Big Night on WWE Smackdown
While Cleveland sports fans had their eyes on the Guardians-Yankees game, their favorite wrestling couple was excelling on Smackdown.
Johnny Gargano, Cleveland’s working-class hero, teamed up with his #DIY partner, Tomasso Ciampa to win a Triple Threat match over Pretty Deadly and The Street Profits.
The victory moves them into the finals of a tournament to declare the No. 1 contenders to The Bloodline’s WWE tag team title.
Their opponents will be Smackdown’s newest tag team, The Motor City Machine Guns.
After toiling on the independents, TNA, and ROH for more than 20 years, Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin won their WWE debut over Angel & Berto and A-Town Down Under.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL
Gargano’s wife, Candice LeRae, also had a big night. She subbed for the injured Tiffany Stratton and teamed with WWE women’s champion Nia Jax against Naomi & Bayley.
LeRae hit a moonsault and pinned Bayley. So that should give her a boost in the Smackdown women’s division.
US champion LA Knight will be the special referee for next week’s “Game 7” match between his top contenders, Carmelo Hayes and Andrade.
Lash Legend (of NXT’s Meta-Four group) extended her time on Smackdown with a win over Piper Niven.
LET’S TALK IT OUT
Smackdown featured a lot of talking, as usual. Cody Rhodes discussed his upcoming champion vs. champion match with Gunther at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on Nov. 2.
The Bloodline factions talked a lot, too, about who is the Tribal Chief. The new group led by Solo Sikoa beat up Original Tribal Chief Roman Reigns to end the show.
The OTC has recruited Jimmy Uso, and now they are working on getting Jey Uso back on their side. This is all leading to WarGames at Survivor Series on Nov. 30.
