Cleveland Guardians Sign Steven Kwan, Lane Thomas for 2025
The Cleveland Guardians donāt like to hold arbitration hearings with their players. The proceedings can get messy and lead to hurt feelings.
Steven Kwan and Lane Thomas wonāt have that problem, as the outfielders agreed to one-year contracts with the team for the 2025 season.
Kwan has been a cornerstone of the team since the āGuardiansā era began in 2024.
The 27-year-old left fielder hit .294 last year with 14 homers, 44 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.
Kwan has won the Gold Glove award in all three of his seasons, and he made the All-Star team in 2024.
After a slow start, Thomas took over in center field after arriving in a deadline trade from Washington.
Thomas, 29, hit a pair of home runs in the postseason, as the Guardians reached the American League Championship Series.
His mightiest blow was a grand slam off Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal to help beat the Detroit Tigers in the AL Division Series.
Kwan will reportedly make $4.175 million this season, while Thomas is set to earn $7.825 million.
WHAT ABOUT RIGHT FIELD?
Jhonkensy Noel mashed 13 home runs when he was called up in the second half of the season.
His production tailed off as pitchers started to figure him out. Heās been working on his hitting in the offseason.
Noel could find himself facing left-handers in a platoon with Will Brennan, who would face right-handers.
Brennan hit .264 with eight homers and 30 RBI in his second full season with the team.
Other outfield options on the 40-man roster include Daniel Schneemann, Johnathan Rodriguez, Tyler Freeman, Angel Martinez, and Petey Halpin.
