Cleveland Guardians Lose Pitchers’ Duel to Milwaukee Brewers

Tanner Bibee has bounced back to his form as Cleveland’s ace starter since returning from a brief injury layoff.

Unfortunately last night, Milwaukee Brewers starter Freddy Peralta was even better in a 2-1 victory over the Guardians.

The Brewers stuck with the playbook that worked on Friday night by jumping into the lead in the first inning.

Gary Sanchez hit a double to score Brice Turang, who had moved into scoring position after an errant pickoff attempt by Bibee.

Cleveland tied the score in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Josh Naylor. He has 27 homers and 89 RBI.

Milwaukee recaptured the lead in the bottom of the fourth when William Contreras hit his 17th homer of the year down the left-field line.

The Brewers pitchers did the rest. Peralta (8-7) went six innings, giving up four hits.

Bibee only gave up three hits in five innings but took the loss to drop to 10-5.

Nick Sandlin, Cade Smith, and Tim Herrin kept the Brewers from doing any more damages, but the Guardians couldn’t even get a hit off the Milwaukee bullpen over the last three innings.

SCOREBOARD WATCHING

The Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins have both won three games in a row. Minnesota is only two games behind, with KC lurking four games out of first place.

The Guardians will try to salvage the last game of the series today at 2:10 p.m. on ESPN+. Ben Lively (10-7) will start for Cleveland against Brewers ace Colin Rea (10-4).
