Cleveland Guardians Gain Three More All-Stars, Beat San Francisco Giants 5-4

David Fry, Josh Naylor, and Emmanuel Clase joined teammates Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan on the American League All-Star team yesterday.

It makes sense that the Guardians’ closer and half the starting lineup made the team, because are doing the heavy lifting.

While the Guardians are 56-32 and enjoying a six-game lead in the American League Central Division, they just sent 40 percent of their starting rotation to the minor leagues!

Carlos Carrasco started Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, and he turned in his typical performance: five innings, three runs.

As usual, the bullpen and timely hitting got the Guardians across the finish line as they beat the Giants 5-4 for the second day in a row.

COMEBACK KIDS

San Francisco built a 3-0 lead on a two-run homer by Michael Conforto and an RBI single by Heliot Ramos.

The Guardians scored twice in the fourth inning. Josh Naylor singled to score Angel Martinez, and Daniel Schneemann doubled to bring home Jose Ramirez.

In the sixth inning, Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt looked like a genius when pinch-hitter Bo Naylor walloped a three-run homer to put Cleveland up 5-3.

The Guardians bullpen took over from there, as Cade Smith, Tim Herrin, and Hunter Gaddis each retired the Giants in order.

Clase gave up only his fourth earned run of the year, but he still notched his 27th save to go with a 0.85 ERA.

HITTING THE ROAD

Cleveland will travel to the Motor City to begin a four-game series with the Detroit Tigers. Gavin Williams (0-1) will get the start for the Guardians against the Tigers’ Keider Montero. First pitch is set for 6:40.
