Chris Sale, Garrett Crochet Win MLB Comeback Player of the Year Awards
Chris Sale is a top contender for the Cy Young Award, so the Atlanta Braves starter was an easy choice for the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Garrett Crochet won the honor in the American League for the Chicago White Sox.
Sale came back from injury to establish himself as the Braves ace and win the pitching Triple Crown. That means he led the National League in wins (18), ERA (2.38), and strikeouts (225).
He is in the running for the Cy Young Award this week, along with Zack Wheeler of the Phillies and Paul Skenes of the Pirates.
Sale’s dominance helped the Braves reach the playoffs with a record of 89-73.
He was also named to the All-MLB team.
CROCHET WINS AL AWARD
Garrett Crochet came back from Tommy John surgery and also took on a new role as a starting pitcher.
Crochet was surprisingly dominant, striking out 209 batters in just 146 innings.
It was also surprising that he was able to accomplish anything noteworthy for the White Sox, who posted the worst record in baseball history at 41-121.
So despite a 6-12 record, Crochet is a coveted trade target. The White Sox need a lot of help, so Crochet could wind up on the Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Padres, or one of four other teams.
