Chicago White Sox: Arizona Fall League Week 3 Recap (October 22-27)
Nine members from the White Sox minor league system played for the Glendale Desert Dogs this past week, three of whom are among the system’s Top 30 prospects. The Dogs fell off a bit this week, with only two wins, dropping them to third place overall with a 10-7 record. The White Sox hitters mainly went cold, while the pitching was tepid, in the heat of the Grand Canyon State.
Eric Adler
His only appearance of the week was in Friday’s 5-4 loss to the Solar Sox. The 23-year-old pitched the fourth and threw two innings, giving up three runs on four hits, including two solo shots. The good news is that he’s continuing to control the zone and didn’t walk anyone, lowering his BB/9 to 3.4. The free passes were an issue for him this season with the Barons, so it’s good to see this progress from Adler.
Andrew Dalquist
Dalquist had two outings this week for the Dogs. The first one on Wednesday was a not-so-great, 25-pitch ninth inning where he gave up two runs on three hits. Saturday’s frame was much better. After walking the first batter, Drew K’d the next three on swinging strikes keeping the game close and giving the Dogs a chance in the seven-inning contest to try and capture the victory in the bottom of the inning. Down 5-2, the offense rallied to score two but ultimately came up short, 5-4.
D.J. Gladney
The Oak Park native had a pretty good week. In four games, he went 4-for-15 for a .267 batting average and hit his first AFL home run. While he’s still working on consistency at the plate, his defense has remained perfect, with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Tim Elko
It wasn’t the best of weeks for the Captain. The first baseman went 2-for-14 with six Ks in four contests. On the plus side, he did work three walks and had a big two-RBI double in the Dog’s 9-6 win over the Salt River Rafters.

Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa
AHT had a second straight solid week. He closed out the game in Tuesday’s 8-1 stomping of the Peoria Javelinas, tossing one inning of no-hit ball while striking out two. He appeared again out of the pen in the ninth during Friday’s close 7-6 loss to the Salt River Rafters, and despite giving up back-to-back singles to lead off the frame, he got the next three batters out. This was the righty’s fourth consecutive scoreless outing.
Colson Montgomery
The Sox’s No. 2 prospect (MLB No. 37) returned to earth this week. Over three games, he went only 2-for-12 with one walk and five strikeouts. It wasn’t all bad news, as both of his hits were two-run dingers, so the continued show of power is good. In the field, he continued his play at the hot corner.
Peyton Pallette
In his only contest of the week, Chicago’s No. 27 prospect surrendered three runs on three hits with one K in one inning of work. Two of the three hits were homers, and he took the loss and earned a blown save for Tuesday’s 9-5 beatdown by the Solar Sox.
Grant Taylor
Chicago’s No. 6 prospect continues to struggle. The righthander made his third start in last Wednesday’s 9-5 loss to the Solar Sox, and surrendered two runs on three hits with two walks in 2 2/3 innings. The upside of the outing is he had 4 Ks, bringing his AFL total strikeouts to 12 over 6 2/3 frames. The stuff is clearly there with a four-pitch arsenal, including a fastball, curve, slider, and cutter he commands well and lands for strikes. However, with a 9.45 ERA and 2.70 WHIP, the 2023 Round 2 (No. 51) draft pick seems to be still working back from his almost two full seasons on the injured list.

Michael Turner
The 26-year-old was the best of the hitting prospects over this seven-game stretch. Turner caught two games and went 2-for-6 with a walk and a strikeout. He’s slashing .409/.458/.545 with a 1.003 OPS.
