Caitlin Clark Officially Named WNBA Rookie Of The Year

The inevitable has happened. The WNBA announced Thursday afternoon that Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has officially been named the 2024 WNBA Rookie Of The Year.

“I am incredibly honored to be named Rookie of the Year, but more than that, I am grateful to everyone that supported me throughout this past season Clark said.

“My family and friends, my teammates, the Fever organization and everyone that cheered us on all season. I am so proud of what we accomplished and so excited for what the future holds,”

Clark took the WNBA by storm like many thought that she would. Playing in all 40 Fever games, she averaged 19.2 points 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists a night.

WNBA records also saw themselves fall at the hands of Clark left and right. Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history and franchise history to record a triple-double. On July 17 during Indiana’s first matchup of the regular season against the Dallas Wings, Clark recorded 19 assists – the most assists in a game in WNBA history.

When a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters had the responsibility of selecting this year’s award, Clark took home 66 of the 67 first-place votes.

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese received the one vote that did not go to Clark after the two very publicly battled it out for the award all summer long.

2024 marks the second straight year an Indiana Fever player will take home the honor after Clark’s star teammate Aliyah Boston won it last year. Before the duo won the last two years Tamika Catchings (2002) was the lone Indiana player to win.

Following a tough stretch of years, the Fever exceed expectations this season finishing with a 20-20 record making the playoffs before being swept by the Connecticut Sun.

Off the court, Indiana set league attendance records including having seemingly every road game filled with Fever fans.

As for the on-the-court matters, Indiana looks to have a bright future, one that Caitlin Clark knows starts with herself.

“The fun part is I feel like I’m just scratching the surface,” Clark said. “I know I want to help this franchise get even better, help my teammates get even better, be better for my teammates. I know there’s a lot of room for me to continue to improve, so that’s what excites me the most.”
