Bryan Danielson, Mariah May Win Owen Hart Cup, Earn Title Shots at Wembley Stadium
Last fall, I was at the AEW Collision show in Cleveland when Bryan Danielson announced that he would be entering his final year as a full-time wrestler.
Well, Danielson is finishing strong because he won the Owen Hart Cup last night in Calgary and will challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World title at the All In pay-per-view at Wembley Stadium in London.
Danielson defeated âHangmanâ Adam Page in the final match of the tournament. Page was looking to earn a rematch with his archrival, Strickland, who announced that he would be on Team AEW for the Blood & Guts match in two weeks.
After hearing that, Page went to The Elite locker room and agreed to be the fifth man on their team. The AEW squad only has Swerve and Mark Briscoe, so they still need three more guys.
ALL ABOUT MARIAH
Mariah May defeated Willow Nightingale to win the womenâs Owen Hart Cup tournament. She earned a title shot against her mentor and mother figure, âTimelessâ Toni Storm.
May shockingly attacked Storm after the match and busted her open. Their entire story is reminiscent of the 1950 film âAll About Eve,â in which young ingenue May (Ann Baxterâs character) idolizes and eventually replaces established star Storm (Bette Davisâs character).
Chris Jericho wiped out Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight by driving a forklift into him and sending him to the hospital.
PAC won a âGlobal Gloryâ four-way match over Kyle Fletcher, Claudio Castagnoli, and Tomohiro Ishii. With the victory, PAC earned an International title shot at All In.
DYNAMITE 250
The next episode of Dynamite will be No. 250. AEW is closing in on WCW Nitro, which lasted for 288 episodes.
Swerve Strickland will take on Kazuchika Okada, and Will Ospreay will defend the International title against MJF.
