Brewers GM Matt Arnold Wins MLB Executive of the Year Award
The Milwaukee Brewers won 92 games in 2023, but their prospects for the 2024 didn’t look good.
They had lost their manager, Craig Counsell, to the Chicago Cubs, while ace pitcher Corbin Burnes went to the Baltimore Orioles in a trade.
However, General Manager Matt Arnold made the right moves to lead the Brewers to 93 wins and the 2024 National League Central Division championship.
As a result, Arnold won this year’s MLB Executive of the Year award.
In addition to patching the holes in the Brewers’ pitching staff throughout the season, Arnold made a wise move in signing Jackson Chourio.
The outfielder signed an eight-year, $82 million contract, which is a record for a player with no big-league experience.
The 20-year-old Chourio rewarded the Brewers by hitting .275 with 21 homers and 79 RBI.
OTHER TOP EXECUTIVES
Kansas City Royals GM J.J. Picollo finished second in the Executive of the Year voting, as the Royals rebounded from a 56-106 season to go 86-76 this year.
Picollo built the Royals around Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans, and Michael Wacha in the starting rotation, along with Vinny Pasquantino, Salvador Perez, and Bobby Witt Jr. in the lineup.
Cleveland Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti finished in third place. He won the award in 2022.
The Guardians, led by new manager Stephen Vogt, overcame the loss of ace Shane Bieber and their usual financial limitations to win the AL Central and advance to baseball’s final four.
