Bo Nix Making Case For NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year
Bo Nix might have been an afterthought in what was expected to be a loaded quarterback class in 2024.
When Sean Payton reached on Nix with the 12th pick of the NFL Draft, he became the fifth quarterback taken and it brought on many questions. After 11 games, it turns out that Payton might still be a good head coach and Nix might be the quarterback of the future in Denver.
Nix ix coming off a performance where he finished 28-for-33 for 307 yards and four touchdowns. The Broncos dominated the Atlanta Falcons, 38-6, and Nix continued to excel.
This begs the question, is Nix all of a sudden in the mix to be named Offensive Rookie of the Year?
After the first two months of the season, it became a foregone conclusion that Jayden Daniels would win the award after the start he led the Washington Commanders to. While Daniels continues to be the favorite, especially if the Commanders make the playoffs this year, Nix is not as far behind as he once was.
In fact, many are starting to draw comparisons between the two youngsters.
Like Daniels, Nix started multiple years in college for different programs. Nix began at Auburn before ending with the Oregon Ducks and learning how to be a professional quarterback. It turns out that quarterbacks with experience in college make the best pros. Who knew?
Nix has 2,275 passing yards this season with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. The Broncos are currently 6-5 and in the mix for a wild-card spot in the AFC.
Like Washington, the Broncos entered the season with tempered expectations. Nix has helped the team outperform these expectations and is putting up big numbers on the way. On Sunday, he set career-highs in passing yards and touchdowns — and did so without turning the ball over.
Right now, Daniels is the favorite to win the OROY but Nix is all of a sudden in the mix. It will be an interesting finish to the season for both players looking to win their first major award as pros.
