Bo Melton’s Journey Is Something Special

16 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown. Those are the numbers that second-year wide receiver Bo Melton put up in the Packers’ final four games of the regular season. He also added in a 19-yard touchdown catch in the divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers. Many would call him the No. 5 wide receiver in Green Bay right now. But at this point, Melton is just glad to have a home.

After being drafted in the seventh round in 2022 by the Seattle Seahawks, he was cut at the end of August and later put on the Seahawks’ practice squad. Near the end of the 2022 season, the Packers plucked him off the practice squad and added him to the active roster in Green Bay. However, he wouldn’t make much of an impact and would go on to be cut at the end of training camp the following August before being added to the practice squad. He would then be signed to the active roster in late-November before being released and added to the practice squad a few days later.

After that bumpy road, the former Rutgers wide receiver would go on to be added to active roster for the rest of the 2023 season. His coming out party came on New Years Eve in Minnesota where he put up six receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. Melton had 15 receptions for 211 yards and a touchdown over the last three games en route to helping Green Bay make the playoffs.

It’s safe to say he has found a home in Green Bay for the foreseeable future. No, he doesn’t have blazing speed or incredible height. But, he has proven that he can be there when Jordan Love needs him. He’s clutch. He converted 13 first downs for Green Bay late last season, according to Pro Football Reference. Perhaps he will end up being to Jordan Love what Randall Cobb was to Aaron Rodgers. An undersized, yet clutch and crafty receiver who is always reliable in big moments.
