Bills Defense Cooks The Dolphins as They Help Them Reach 2-0

After a short week, the Buffalo Bills faced off against the Miami Dolphins on a Thursday Night AFC clash at Hard Rock Stadium. Although the Bills were on the road The Bills faithful did not lack in support as many showed up eager to see how they would respond after a close win last week. The win last week left a lot of Bills fans worried as they struggled more than expected against the Cardinals and many wanted them to win more convincingly. The close result left so many doubting The Bills that they were underdogs coming into this game.

This disrespect made the Bills players shape up especially the defense who after a few stops made a statement on 3rd and 13 when Tua was looking for a receiver locked up by Christian Benford who tipped the ball. It came to the hands of Ja’Marcus Ingram who picked it off. Now the Bills were on offence in a good position and Josh Allen continued to show why he should not be doubted as The Bills offence came out hot, leading a long possession where they went all the way down the field to the 13-yard line where it was 4th and 3 and The Bills went for it. On 4th, Allen threw a short pass to the outside of James Cook who ran it in the end zone to put the Bills up 7-0. But, The Dolphins did respond as Tua led the home team the length of the field where on second and goal he threw a short pass to Devon Achane as he levelled the score all up at 7-7. The Bills on their second still on offence in the first quarter didn’t do much as they had to punt it away, however, the defense came into play as with 47 seconds left in the first quarter on 1st and 10 Tua had the ball and overthrew Robbie Chosen and it went right to Christian Benford who got the second interception of the first quarter on Tua.

Fast forward to the second quarter and The Bills couldn’t convert on 3rd down so they had to settle for a 43-yard Tyler Bass field goal making it 10-7 Bills. The dolphins went back on offence but it didn’t amount to much as they were forced to punt. Then the Bills continued to control the game as Josh Allen led the Bills to the 1-yard line where James Cook rushed it in for a touchdown making it 17-7 Bills. Then on defense, The Bills made another statement as the Dolphins were stopped on 3rd and 1 and went for it on 4th where Ed Oliver came up with the sack on Tua to get another turnover on downs in great position for The Bills. Then on the first play after the stop, the Bills offensive line helped clear the way for James Cook who found an opening and was gone as he ran for a 49-yard touchdown. Making it an amazing first half 1 receiving touchdown and 2 rushing touchdowns, making the score 24-7 Bills in just a matter of minutes. Then in the final minutes of the quarter, The Bills defence held the Dolphins in the red zone and the Dolphins had to settle for a 34-yard field goal by Jake Sanders making it 24-10 going into the half.

The Bills would start the 3rd quarter with the ball but nothing would come with it as they had to punt the ball away. But the Bills defense made another big play as The Dolphins were playing with 2 new offensive line players on the drive because of injuries in prior possessions and on 3rd and 5 A.J. Epenesa went after those Dolphins players as he pressured Tua in the pocket. Tua had no options so he tried to throw it away on the side but the pressure was too much as it was underthrown to Ja’Marcus Ingram who had all the time to take it back for a Pick 6 and his second INT of the day, Tua’s 3rd interception of the game and making it 31-10 for the Bills.

Then from bad came worse for the Dolphins as back on offence Tua would lead them to the red zone but was stopped on 3rd and 4 but decided to go for it on 4th down with 3:28 left in the 3rd quarter. Tua escaped the pressure and ran for his best play of the night but did not slide after he got the first down as he ran with his head right into the chest of Bills safety Damar Hamlin and was down immediately hitting his head on the ground. After that, he had to go to the Dolphins locker with a concussion and did not return. Tua’s injury status has not been updated as he has to pass concussion protocol but it was one of the moments in the game that no fan wants to see. The game after that really didn’t matter as Skylar Thompson the backup quarterback came in and didn’t really do anything as both teams played their backup players for the 4th.

The score finished 31-10 Bills as they start off the season 2-0 looking better in a game where Josh Allen didn’t shine in stats but shined in togetherness with this team. The Bills showed improvement in all aspects of the game as The Bills defensive masterclass and James Cook’s monster game helps leads the Bills to 2-0 as they dominated the Dolphins holding Tyreek Hill to 3 receptions and Jaylen Waddle to 4. To improve so drastically from that nail-biting win against the Cardinals is exactly what the fans wanted and now they get an extended break as they look for 3-0 against the Jaguars at home on Monday the 23rd.
