Biggest Winners From The 2024 NFL Draft
The 2024 NFL Draft is officially complete and fans have had almost a week to study what their team has done.
The first round took place last Thursday and there were many surprises. Despite an exciting first night, the draft is won and lost on days two and three.
Below, check out five teams who won the weekend during the NFL Draft.
4. Minnesota Vikings
For some, the draft can be won on the first night. Enter the Minnesota Vikings.
Minnesota was expected to be busy on the first night of the draft holding two first-round picks. The Vikings decided not to make a major move into the top five but instead waited back and let their quarterback fall. To ensure that they landed J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings made a low-risk move to No. 10 to take their franchise quarterback.
Next, Minnesota saw one of the top defensive players on the board fall. Minnesota quickly moved up to No. 17 to draft Dallas Turner out of Alabama. With these two picks, the Vikings immediately improved on both sides of the ball.
3. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles knew what they needed coming into the draft and like always, Howie Roseman was ready.
Philadelphia needed help in the secondary, specifically at corner, and landed Quinyon Mitchell in the first round. The draft room watched as Cooper DeJean fell out of the first round and made this a priority on day two. Philadelphia found a deal with the Washington Commanders, moving up to No. 40 to land the Iowa corner.
Along with extended both wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith around the time of the draft, the Eagles added impactful rookies to complete another great offseason.
2. Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders made the clear and obvious pick on Thursday night with Jayden Daniels. Over the next two days, General Manager Adam Peters does what he does best and that is finding great value in the later rounds.
The Commanders saw Johnny Newton fall to No. 36 and ran to the podium to take one of the best defensive lineman in the field. Next, Washington moved the 40th pick in the draft to Philadelphia and got back No. 50 and 53. This is where the team drafted Mike Sainristil and Ben Sinnott, two major needs that were filled with hard-nosed players.
Jordan Magee and Luke McCaffrey were other additions that have a chance to get on the field early. The Commanders might have added four or five players that have a chance to start right away. When that is done, a team had a successful draft.
1. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears had a strong offseason ahead of the draft. This included signing D’Andre Swift in free agency and making a trade for Keenan Allen to pair with D.J. Moore.
The skill positions were ready and waiting for the quarterback to be announced with the first-overall pick. The Bears made it official and drafted Caleb Williams. The best pick of the night might have been when Chicago added Rome Odunze with the ninth-overall pick. Now, the Bears have a skill-position group that can be explosive and compete with anyone in the league.
