Big City Nights: Los Angeles Dodgers to Face New York Yankees in World Series
Growing up as a baseball fan, it seemed like the New York Yankees often faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
Well, it’s happening again, and the Dodgers clinched the National League pennant with a 10-5 win over the New York Mets last night.
Looking back at the history books, the Yankees beat the Dodgers in 1977 and 1978 before the Dodgers got some revenge in 1981.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
The Dodgers overwhelmed the Mets with offense for the fourth time in the series.
After spotting the Mets a run, Los Angeles took the lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Tommy Edman.
LA widened the lead to 6-1 in the fourth inning on two-run homers from Edman and Will Smith.
At this point, Dodger fans stopped worrying about the pitching injuries that have plagued the team. They were cruising to the World Series while pitching a bullpen game!
METS DON’T QUIT
Mark Vientos bashed a two-run homer for the Mets to cut the lead to 6-3 in the fourth.
The Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani singled in a run in the sixth, but the Mets countered with a sacrifice fly by Francisco Alvarez in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-4.
But Los Angeles put the game away in the eighth, scoring three runs on a Mookie Betts double, a Teoscar Hernandez sacrifice fly, and an Enrique Hernandez single.
Jeff McNeil drove in the Mets’ final run with a single in the ninth.
Like the Cleveland Guardians, the Mets showed tremendous heart in advancing to the final four. They were a losing team before rallying behind Francisco Lindor (and Grimace).
The World Series will begin Friday night on Fox. The start time and pitching matchup will be announced later.
