Best Landing Spots For Top Remaining MLB Free Agents
The allure of MLB free agency begins to wear off around this time.
Many big names have found new homes for 2025 but there is no timeline where players have to sign. So, for the remaining free agents, it is a waiting game.
There are still plenty of big names left on the market and we will give our best predictions to see where these players will sign.
Alex Bregman: Bregman has been one of the most interesting free agent, big names this offseason. There have been reports that Bregman is seeking a six-year deal and the Houston Astros do not look prepared or interested in reaching that level. A team that might, and would like to add a player from a winning culture, was the surprise of the season this year. And has the AL Cy Young award winner while also adding Gleyber Torres.
Prediction: Detroit Tigers
Pete Alonso: It feels like there is a continuing disconnect between Alonso and the New York Mets. Or reports could be coming out to persuade Scott Boras to come down on his asking price. This is a reference to Vlad Guerrero Jr. being linked to the Mets in a trade. If this happens, Alonso is gone. Why not make a big splash if you are the Mets? And why not replace Vladdy with Alonso?
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays
Anthony Santander: Santander had a big-time year in a contract year and that is the name of the game. He is a switch hitter that has the capability of hitting 35 or more home runs moving forward. He also does not strike out at a high rate. The question is, will he be able to repeat this production on a consistent basis? There is one team that has wanted to spend money over the years but has struggled landing the big names. They might be able to get one here.
Prediction: San Francisco Giants
Tanner Scott: Scott has turned into one of the best left-handed relievers in baseball. He was sent to San Diego for a boatload of prospects at the trade deadline and will likely be elsewhere this year. The Mets have shown a willingness to spend big money on free agents. This is not exactly true in the starting rotation but maybe David Stearns values a dominant lefty in the pen.
Prediction: New York Mets
Jack Flaherty: Flaherty has been up-and-down over the years but has seemed to bring his market back to what it was early on. He was a pivotal part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ run to the World Series following a slew of injuries. The Dodgers hope to get healthy, while also adding Roki Sasaki, so Flaherty is likely up for grabs.
Prediction: Detroit Tigers
