Beertown Bash: Milwaukee Brewers Beat Cleveland Guardians 5-3

Whether they are winning five in a row or losing seven straight, the Cleveland Guardians have been playing some of the best teams in the American and National leagues.

The Milwaukee Brewers used to be in the AL, but the Guardians made a rare visit to the now-NL Brewers in a 5-3 loss last night at American Family Field.

Milwaukee shortstop Willy Adames hit his 22nd homer of the year in the first inning to put the Brewers up 3-0 against Gavin Williams (2-5). Adames leads the major leagues with 10 three-run homers.

The Brewers (wearing their “Brew Crew” City Connect jerseys) extended their lead to 5-0 on a double by Garrett Mitchell in the third and a single by Brice Turang in the fourth.

Cleveland’s bullpen kept Milwaukee at bay for the rest of the game. Pedro Avila, Eli Morgan, and Scott Barlow combined for four shutout innings.

Cleveland couldn’t get any offense going against old friend Aaron Civale. The former Guardians (and Indians) pitcher delivered six shutout innings, giving up just four hits.

CENTURY MARK

Jose Ramirez finally put Cleveland on the board with a two-run homer in the eighth. His 32nd home run gave him 100 RBI for the season.

Two batters later, David Fry also connected with home run No. 12. However, Cleveland couldn’t get any closer as Joel Payamps picked up his sixth save for Milwaukee.

The Guardians lead the Minnesota Twins by three games in the AL Central. The Brewers are on top of the NL Central by 10 games over the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals.

The series will continue tonight on Fox at 7:15 Eastern time. Tanner Bibee (10-4) will start for Cleveland, while the Brewers will counter with Freddy Peralta (7-7).
