Baltimore Orioles Snap Cleveland Guardians’ Five-Game Win Streak

Every party has to end sometime, and the Cleveland Guardians’ winning streak stopped at five.

After two losses, the Baltimore Orioles beat the hometown heroes 7-4 at Progressive Field on Saturday night.

Zach Eflin pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Birds, giving up just two runs on an Angel Martinez home run in the third inning.

Eflin improved to 7-7, as Baltimore recently grabbed him at the trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays.

OPPOSING OFFENSE

Baltimore finally got a chance to flex its offensive muscles against Cleveland’s rookie starter Joey Cantillo (0-1).

In the second inning, the Orioles tied the game 2-2 on run-scoring singles by Eloy Jimenez and Colton Cowser.

Gunnar Henderson’s RBI single in the fifth gave Baltimore a 3-2 lead, and Cantillo headed to the showers.

The Orioles blew the game open with four runs in the eighth inning off Xzavion Curry. Adley Rutschman hit a two-run triple, and Ryan O’Hearn and Jackson Holliday added RBI singles.

WHAT A WEEK!

Jose Ramirez hit his fifth home run of the week, a two-run blast in the eighth to cut Baltimore’s lead to 7-4.

However, Orioles closer Yennier Cano shut the door in the ninth for his fifth save. The Orioles are tied with the New York Yankees on top of the AL Eastern Division at 66-46.

Before the game, the Guardians welcomed CC Sabathia into the team’s Hall of Fame. He won 251 games in his career, along with the 2007 Cy Young Award.

In the Central, the Guardians are 67-43. Minnesota has won three straight and is 5½ games behind. Kansas City is six games back.

Cleveland will try to win the series today at 1:40 p.m. Gavin Williams (1-3) will start for the Guardians, while the O’s counter with All-Star Corbin Burnes (11-4).
