Back to LA: New York Mets Stay Alive, Beat Dodgers 12-6 in Game 5
The New York Mets punched back after suffering three brutal beatings at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After a 12-6 win last night, the Mets are heading to California for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead when Pete Alonso bashed a three-run homer off Jack Flaherty, whom the Dodgers acquired at the trade deadline from Detroit.
LA scored on a wild pitch in the second, but the Mets exploded for five more runs off Flaherty in the third.
The big hits were a two-run double by Starling Marte and an RBI triple by Francisco Lindor.
Marte had four hits, including three doubles.
DODGING THE BOMBS
The Dodgers hit three home runs during the remainder of the game. Their No. 9 hitter, rookie outfielder Andy Pages, hit a solo homer in the fourth and a three-run bomb in the fifth.
Mookie Betts added a solo shot in the sixth, but the Dodgers were still trailing 10-6.
The Mets scored their final two runs on a sacrifice fly by Jeff McNeil and an RBI single by Marte.
GAME 6 MATCHUP
The Dodgers will try to lock down the National League pennant on Sunday at 8:08 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
They have not announced a starter. The Mets will go with Sean Manaea, who is 2-0 in the post season.
