Myles Garrett Trade Scenarios: What Could the Browns Get in Return?

Now that the shock has settled in for all Browns fans, myself included, one must ask, what could the Browns get in return for star EDGE rusher Myles Garrett? Myles Garrett, an eight-year veteran and the face of the Cleveland Browns, boasts an impressive résumé that includes four first-team All-Pro selections, two second-team All-Pro nods, six Pro Bowl appearances, and a Defensive Player of the Year award. With 102.5 career sacks and 352 tackles, he has cemented his place as one of the league’s elite defenders. A player of this caliber does not often become available in the NFL. Today I will lay out three trade scenarios ranging from tame to wild that I could see going through for Myles Garrett.

Tame Scenario

Browns Recieve: A First Round Pick, Second Round Pick, A slue of Day 3 picks

Eagles Recieve: Myles Garrett

Rationale: The Market is dry due to Myles going public with the trade request.

This scenario seems similar to what most people on the internet think the Browns Can get out of Myles Garrett despite his much higher value as a player. This also checks the boxes of the Browns keeping him out of the AFC. While the return is not as high as you would hope as a browns fan, The Browns are still adding plenty of picks to start their inevitable rebuild.

Crazy Scenario

Browns Receive: Two first Round Picks, JJ McCarthy

Vikings Receive: Myles Garrett, 2nd round pick

The Rationale: The Khalil Mack Trade.

This trade is similar to the Khalil Mack trade in the fact that the browns get two first-round picks, while still having to give up a second. In this trade, however, instead of the browns getting a third or sixth, they are getting JJ McCarthy, a former first-round pick from Michigan. JJ seems to be a question mark for the Vikings as he suffered a season-ending before the 2024 season and as a result, quarterback Sam Darnold broke out for the team. Because of Darnold’s break out, they decide to stick with him in this scenario and use JJ McCarthy as a piece to get who is arguably the league’s best defender, Myles Garrett.

Wild Scenario

Browns Receive: 3 first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a 6th round pick.

Bears Receive: Myles Garrett, a 4th and 6th round pick

The Rationale: The Deshaun Watson Trade.

This Scenario is wild for a reason, it uses the Browns’ biggest failure of the Deshaun Watson trade as the reason for why it could happen. The Bears are a similar franchise to the Browns in that, they have been trying to piece together a contender for a long time. The Bears feel that they have their offensive star at quarterback in Caleb Williams and because of this, they are willing to give everything to get their defensive star in Myles Garrett. This trade is best case scenario for the Browns as it would put them in a position with plenty of draft capital to jump-start a rebuild and quickly get back into contention, much like what happened to the Texans when they traded Deshaun Watson to the Browns in 2022.
