Around the NFC West: Week 5
It was a second straight loss for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday when they fell 29-20 to the New York Giants. The loss is not on Geno Smith, however. He threw for 284 yards and a touchdown and ran for 72 yards. He spread the ball around to nine different pass catchers. Tyler Lockett led the way with four catches for 75 yards. The Seattle running backs managed just 30 yards on 7 carries. The Seahawks play the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football this week.
Speaking of the 49ers, they lost 24-23 to the Arizona Cardinals this week. Brandon Aiyuk had a huge game in the loss catching eight passes for 147 yards. Brock Purdy threw a late interception to end the comeback bid. He was 19 of 35 for 244 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions on the day. For the Cardinals, Kyler Murray got things started early when he ran for a 50-yard touchdown on their opening drive of the game. He finished the day with 83 rushing yards and 195 passing yards. It was a quiet day for rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. who had just two catches for 36 yards. The Cardinals travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers in week six.
Kyren Williams ran for 102 yards and a touchdown, but it was not enough as the Los Angeles Rams fell 24-19 to the Green Bay Packers. Matthew Stafford threw for 260 yards with one touchdown and one interception. With both Puka Nucua and Cooper Kupp still sidelined, Stafford’s favorite target was Jordan Whittington who had seven catches for 89 yards. The Rams have a much needed bye this week.
