Around the NFC South: Week 17
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took control of their own destiny in the NFC South with their 48-14 win over the Carolina Panthers. Baker Mayfield threw for 359 yards and five touchdowns in the win. Mike Evans had a big day hauling in eight catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Bucky Irving also had a big day with 190 total yards. For the Panthers, Bryce Young continued his improved play with 203 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Adam Thielen was his favorite target catching five passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers managed just 39 rushing yards in the loss. The Buccaneers win the NFC South if they can knock off the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Panthers will face off with the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaking of the Falcons, they took a tough 30-24 overtime loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. Michael Penix showed some promise in the game throwing for 223 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Bijan Robinson found the end zone twice and had 90 rushing yards in the loss. Drake London caught seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown.
The New Orleans Saints’ woes continued with their 25-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Spencer Rattler struggled again throwing for 218 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. New Orleans will be looking for both a quarterback and a head coach this offseason.
