Around the NFC South: Week 1

The Carolina Panthers have a new coaching staff but the results were the same. They lost 47-10 to the New Orleans Saints. Bryce Young’s struggles continued. He was just 13 of 30 for 161 yards and threw two interceptions. He was also sacked four times. The Carolina offense gained less than 200 yards in the contest. On the other side, Derek Carr threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns. The big strike came on a 59-yard touchdown pass to Rashid Shaheed. The Saints also ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints get a big test in week two when they travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. The Panthers will try to get on track when they host the Los Angeles Chargers.

Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got off to a fast start with a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders. Mayfield threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns went to Mike Evans. Is there a receiver in the NFL who is more underrated than Evans? Chris Godwin also chipped in eight catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. The Buccaneers take on the Detroit Lions in week two.

It was a rough first start for Kirk Cousins with the Atlanta Falcons who lost 18-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He threw for 155 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Bijan Robinson had over 100 yards of total offense in the loss. He was the only member of the Falcons who was able to get anything going in this one. There was a lot of hype for Drake London now that Atlanta has a serviceable quarterback. London was only able to catch two passes for 15 yards on three targets against the Steelers. The Falcons play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in week two.
