Around the AFC West: Week 9
If Patrick Mahomes gets the ball first in overtime, the game is over. That was the case on Monday night when the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-24. Mahomes threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns in the win. DeAndre Hopkins did not take much time to get acclimated to the offense. He had eight catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Travis Kelce also had a big night with 14 catches for 100 yards. Kareem Hunt, who scored the game-winning touchdown, carried the ball 27 times for 106 yards. The Chiefs host the Broncos in week 10.
Justin Herbert threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns in the Los Angeles Chargers 27-10 win over the Cleveland Browns. Quentin Johnson had one of the best games of his career with four catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. J.K. Dobbins got back on track with 85 yards rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers play the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
It was a tough day for Box Nix in the Denver Broncos 41-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Nix completed just 19 of 33 passes for 223 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. He was also sacked four times. Nix did pick up 36 yards rushing on six carries. The good news for Denver is that Courtland Sutton has stacked good games. He had seven catches for 122 yards in this one.
The Las Vegas Raiders lost their fifth straight game 41-24 to the Cincinnati Bengals. It led to their offensive coordinator being fired on Monday. Brock Bowers continues to be a bright spot for the offense. He had five catches and a touchdown in the loss. The Raiders made the switch from Gardner Minshew to Desmond Ridder in the third quarter. It will be interesting to see who plays quarterback when the Raiders come back from their week 10 bye.
