Around the AFC West: Week 10
It’s been a crazy year for the Las Vegas Raiders. They have already fired their coach and replaced their starting quarterback. Since they fired head coach Josh McDaniels and replaced him with Antonio Pierce they are 2-0. That includes a win this week on Sunday Night Football over the New York Jets. It was not a pretty win, but a win is a win. The Raiders’ defense held the Jets without a touchdown. The offense was led by Josh Jacobs who had 27 carries for 116 yards. The Raiders travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins in week 11.
The Los Angeles Chargers dropped a home game to the surprising Detroit Lions 41-38. The Chargers seem to be experts in finding ways to lose close games. Justin Herbert was great in this game throwing for 323 yards and four touchdowns. Keenan Allen was on the receiving end of 175 of those yards and had two of the touchdowns. The issue for Los Angeles here was the run defense. They gave up 200 yards on the ground to the Lions on just 31 carries. It is going to be tough to win a game when you give up 6.5 yards per carry. The Chargers head to Green Bay to take on the Packers this Sunday.
In one of the most surprising upsets of the week, the Denver Broncos knocked off the Buffalo Bills 24-22 on Monday Night Football. They did get some late help from the Bills when they missed a potential game-winning field goal but got a do-over when the Bills were penalized for having too many men on the field. Don’t look now but the Broncos have won three in a row. There was a lot of hope that bringing Sean Payton to Denver would revitalize Russell Wilson’s career. Wilson has not been great, but he has been playing much better than last season. The Broncos host the Minnesota Vikings this week.
The Kansas City Chiefs were off in week 10.
